Christmas Events on Dec. 6 a big hit!

Thank you to everyone who came out to South Cooking Lake’s annual Christmas Craft Sale on Saturday, December 6th at the Hall from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., as part of Strathcona County’s Christmas in the Country events in our community and those around us. Thank you also to those who attended the Light Up event at the South Contact Office/Fire Hall to enjoy refreshments, crafts, roasted marshmallows, fireworks and more. It was great to see such a large number of community families come out and share the festivities!

Thank you also to everyone who donated new or gently-used gift items to our Kids’ Shopping area during the Christmas Craft Sale at the Hall, and to all of the shoppers who found gifts for their parents, friends and siblings. With your help, we were able to raise nearly $200 from our loonie and toonie shopping area, and the money will be put towards future family events in our community! Special thank you to Maureen Mudie for collecting the donations for us at the Firehall Diner.

Say Hello to Matt – Our Summer Program Leader

South Cooking Lake Summer ProgramStop by the playground this summer and say hello to Matt – our summer program leader. Matt will be at the playground this summer Monday to Friday, 9:30 to 5:30, setting up games, crafts and activities until Aug 27th. Children of all ages are invited to stop by and play.

Matt is a third year education student at the University of Alberta. In his spare time, he plays volleyball and drums with his band The Mighty Steeds.

For more information about the summer program, check out this post. The summer program is free and brought to you by the South Cooking Lake community league.

SCL Summer Program at the Playground

Looking for some great summer fun? Head on over to the SCL playground and check out our summertime Playground program.  South Cooking Lake Trail Days

This summer we’ll have a full-time recreational leader hanging out at the playground. There’ll be games, sports, crafts and more. Everyone is welcome to come!

The program will be running Monday to Friday, from July 2nd to August 27th, 9:30 – 5:30.

Is there a fee?

Nope! This program is completely free.

Is there is an age limit?

Children of all ages are welcome.

The recreational leader and the community league are not providing supervision and are not responsible for your child/children while they are using the playground or participating in activities. Parents/guardians are responsible for their child/children at all times.

What kind of activities will there be?

All kinds – the recreational leader will have an arsenal of sports, crafts & games for children of all ages. If there is a game or activity that you’d like to see, just let the recreational leader know.

What happens if it rains?

We’ll open up the hall and will run some games and crafts. Programming will be cancelled if there is severe weather.

Why is there no summer camp, as there has been in past years?

The majority of the funds we used to run the summer camp were received through grants. This year we did not receive those grants. We received only enough funding for one individual.

Tuesday, June 10th

South Cooking Lake Community Hall

Doors open at 6 p.m. Meeting begins at 7 p.m.

Representatives from the Information and Volunteer Center will be on hand to assist. Refreshments provided.

This meeting is an opportunity for ALL RESIDENTS in the area to have their say about the future of the South Cooking Lake Community Hall. We want to hear your ideas about what is best for our community now and in the future.

Also please join us for the South Cooking Lake Community League AGM

Thursday, June 12th

South Cooking Lake Hall at 7 p.m.

Refreshments provided.

A key part of the discussion about the future of the Hall is the status of the South Cooking Lake Community League. The League operates the Hall and is necessary to apply for the grant funding that supports the events, programs and classes that are so important to our community. A number of the current Community League Board Members are finishing their terms this month, and we need to fill these positions to maintain the Community League and to ensure our Hall remains open. Please join us to find out how you can help. Be a participant and volunteer for our community!

We look forward to seeing you at these important meetings!
